DON’T FALL FOR THIS.

I went to the Women’s Show today with a couple of friends.  We had a good time, there were some pretty good vendors there, and we walked around, talking to people, getting our free samples and entering draws etc.  The usual trade show things.

I noticed something quite disturbing though so thought I would do a quick post on it.

There were so many vendors that seemed to think getting older, and looking it at all, was a very bad thing.  Like if you had some laugh lines you may as well have the plague.  I don’t mind making an effort to look decent most of the time, but I don’t generally spend thousands of dollars a year for the latest ‘skin care gimmick’.  I think there is nothing wrong with getting older.  Nothing wrong with taking care of yourself either, but what struck me today was the way they prey on some people.

I walked up to one vendor who had an interesting looking thing that zapped your skin.  I was curious as to what it was.  I asked her if it was a massager, or what.  She explained that no, it was more of a negative ion zapper (my words, I cannot remember her words).

Anyway, here is what I don’t want you to fall for ~ she handed me a mirror and said “Tell me three places that you don’t like your face”.  I was like “What??? But I like my face.”  Apparently its rare when people say to her ‘I like my face’, because she looked a little perplexed.  I told her ‘you just pick 3 things’.  And she did.  She quite quickly found three things on my face that apparently needed attention with no thought at all.

I realize that she is a ‘professional’, and knows what are problem spots for most people, but if I was a little less secure about myself I could have potentially walked out of there feeling pretty poorly.

It wasn’t just her, there were many vendors there that were very quick and happy to tell me what was wrong with me, or my skin, or hair, or weight or whatever.

I know they are there to sell products and I totally get it.  I was not the least bit offended and I learned some pretty neat things about some pretty cool products (who knows maybe I’d even buy one of those negative ion zappy things).

Just wanted to tell you that YOU are okay too.  If you feel good about you, keep it that way.  You don’t need to try and come up with ways that you don’t like yourself or ways to fix yourself for someone else.  Be you.  Don’t let anyone tell you that any part of you isn’t good enough.
